Random notes

This winter has been long and harsh. The weather has improved the past couple of days, but temperatures are still well below zero. Earlier in the week the wind chill was -30°C.

I worked on my income taxes today, and tore up a stack of old financial records about 4" high.

I've been reading Atlantis, by John Cowper Powys. It's partly a tale of the adventures of Ulysses after The Odyssey, partly a tale of a revolt against the Greek gods. Very good, with plenty of vivid scenes and the usual eccentric Powys touches.

I've also been reading Tales from the Drones Club, by P.G. Wodehouse, author of the Jeeves & Wooster books. It's the first of his books that I've read (I did see the Jeeves & Wooster TV series with Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie). His stories are very funny, and very light in tone. Good fun.

I've been watching the new Survivor. I'm not sure who to root for yet; maybe Sandy, the older lady (younger than me, but older than the others on Survivor). I don't like "Coach". From reading his bio, he also likes to be called "Maestro"! Shades of the Seinfeld episode of the same name.

Lost continues to be awesome. I'm glad they are showing a rerun of the previous weeks episode before each new episode. I usually pick up on a few things I missed the first time through.

A few examples of trees broken by the accumulation of snow, as mentioned in my last post. The snow is gone, but the damage remains.

I drove around town today and was shocked at the number of trees that had been damaged by the heavy snowfall earlier in the week. It's too early in…
