I love old books. I've mentioned that I'm reading the major novels of John Cowper Powys, and when I want to buy the next one, I check eBay and BookFinder.com to find the best deal. I recently picked up a first edition hardcover of Maiden Castle for less than I would have paid for a new paperback reprint. It's in excellent condition and beautifully printed -- they really knew how to make books 70 years ago. It lacks a dust jacket, but I think dust jackets are mainly for marketing; certainly they don't protect the book. They can be attractive, but I'd rather have a book with no dust jacket than one with a torn or chipped jacket.
