I finally bought a portable music player. Not an iPod; I got an 2 GB iAUDIO U3 and a pair of Sennheiser PX100 headphones. I like the U3 because it can play FLAC files, and it works as a flash drive when you plug it into your PC. To copy mp3 files over, you just drag and drop. It also has an FM tuner. Sound quality, especially with the Sennheisers, is very good. The only thing it lacks is gapless playback, but I can live without that.

I'm not keen on mp3, and would never buy music in that format. I wish the music industry would standardize on a higher quality format than CD (like SACD or DVD-Audio) and promote that at least as much as they push mp3.
