The Guardian Angels will be setting up a chapter in Calgary this summer. Founder Curtis Sliwa was here earlier this week, and said the east downtown area was about the worst he had seen for open drug use and dealing. I don't know how effective the Guardian Angels have been elsewhere, or if Sliwa might be exaggerating, but the fact is that the downtown area has gone downhill the past few years. Our mayor says all the right things, but somehow things don't improve. Something needs to be done, and if the Guardian Angels can be part of the solution, more power to them.
