I'm re-reading Titus Groan, which I first read in 1971 (I think, judging from the printing date on my copy). Excellent book. It's written in a very visual style, even apart from the author's illustrations, and I vividly remember quite a few of the scenes, though others I don't remember and perhaps didn't grasp on that first reading. Next up: Gormenghast and the shorter, weaker conclusion to the trilogy, Titus Alone.

It's Stampede Week here. Breakfasts served on the street every morning, with country bands playing. Everyone wearing western garb. Business booming at all the restaurants and nightclubs. Oceans of beer consumed. Loud fireworks displays every night around 11:30 (I can hear but not see them from my apartment).
