I went to the annual 4th St. Lilac Festival this afternoon. They seal off a section of 4th Street about a mile long, and allow vendors to set up on both sides of the street. There are also stages set up every block or two, with bands and dancers of every description performing. There were so many people there that I was starting to feel a little claustrophobic. I don't recall ever being in such a tightly packed crowd. It was fun and interesting and I'm glad I went, but it would have been better to go earlier and avoid the crowd.

I'm not sure why it is called the Lilac Festival. I suppose it is just that time of year; we did see lilacs in bloom while walking there.
