There's a funny Pepsi commercial that speculates on how things might have turned out if Jimi Hendrix had taken up the accordion instead of the guitar (go here and select Crossroads to view it).

I wonder, though, what would have happened if he had not taken up music at all, but instead had become a plumber. Would he have been a genius plumber, or just an ordinary plumber with a hidden, unrealized talent for music? Are there plumbers, schoolteachers, traffic cops who have great talents they have never discovered? Do creative geniuses know they have something special within them that drives them to realize it, or does their talent only become apparent after the fact?
