Labour Day

Yes, that's how we spell it in Canada.

I'm thankful that I am gainfully employed. I have mixed feelings about work, and complain about it from time to time, but having been through brief periods of unemployment, I know that I am happier with a job. I have recently been reading about jobs being outsourced overseas, and about IT departments dumping older employees for new graduates who will work longer hours for less money. I know that I am fortunate to have an employer who values experience, and who is flexible enough to allow me to work only 4 days a week (or 3 days a week, as I did a few years ago).

The stock market is supposed to be a leading indicator for the economy, and as stocks have been rising for the past 5 months, I am hopeful that the job market will soon improve, and that those who are currently unemployed or unhappy with their jobs will have new opportunities.
