Oz '06 - part 1a - planes, trains & automobiles

Distances travelled:

By airplane - 36,010 kilometres / 22,376 miles

Calgary > Seattle > L.A. > Brisbane > Perth; Perth > Ayers Rock > Cairns; Cairns > Brisbane > L.A. > Seattle > Calgary.

By car - 4,966 kilometres / 3,086 miles

I drove 3,320 km in Western Australia in a Holden Commodore, and 1,646 km in Queensland in a Ford Falcon. I had expected to drive maybe 1,500 to 2,000 km in all...

By train - 0 kilometres / 0 miles

We had considered taking the Prospector from Merredin to Kalgoorlie and back, but ran out of time (and have been to Kalgoorlie before).

Neil & Lorna's Excellent Australian Adventure - part 2 - Cape to Cape

While we were in Western Australia we spent most of our time in Merredin, Lorna's hometown, where her mother and one of her sisters still live. From there, we did an overnight trip to Wave Rock and a 3-night trip around the southwest of the the state, including the "Cape to Cape" region between Cape Leeuwin and Cape Naturaliste.

There's just something about this sign... I can't quite put my finger on it...
