I was sorely tempted to fly to Hawaii last month to see the Mermen, who played a few gigs there on their way to Japan. I didn't do it, but I really would like to see them play live someday.

It's snowing here, which would be another good reason for running off to Hawaii.

In future, perhaps I should only mention when it is not snowing. That wouldn't clutter up my journal as much.

I picked up a PCI slot fan on eBay, to keep my computer cool during the summer. The ambient temperature goes up a lot in this apartment. Anyway, as soon as I opened the package I realized there was no way this honking great thing would fit in my tiny Shuttle PC. I don't know what I was thinking when I bought it. I've just taken the cover off to confirm that there isn't room, and I don't think even a small slot fan would fit. Fortunately, I only paid a buck for it on eBay. If my computer gets too hot in the summer, I may just leave the cover off, as it runs cooler that way.

I watched Open Range tonight. It's a pretty good western, starring Robert Duvall and Kevin Costner (who also directed). The other Costner-directed movies I've seen (Waterworld, The Postman) didn't quite work for me, but they were at least more interesting and ambitious than most Hollywood pictures. This one I did enjoy.

I was sufficiently impressed by the beautiful scenery to look up where it was filmed -- in Calgary, Longview and Morley, here in southern Alberta.
