Today is the first day of spring. The vernal equinox was last night at 11:49 p.m. MST. Of course, for those in the southern hemisphere, like some of L's relatives, it is the first day of autumn.

"The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month."
-- Henry van Dyke, Fisherman's Luck

Tried going for a walk this morning, but it was too cold, so instead we browsed in a few stores and then went to Second Cup for a coffee. On the way home, we picked up a couple of burritos from a take-out place for breakfast.

Our house gecko, the little guy that roamed our apartment walls chirping occasionally, died yesterday. We hadn't heard him for a few weeks (we almost never saw him) and were worried that he had gotten outside. But yesterday L saw him on the wall, looking poorly. He died a few hours later. It's not like losing a cat or a dog; there was no great emotional attachment, and L has many other geckos. But we will miss his chirping. L did an autopsy and thinks he had prostate cancer.

I installed my new video card and its drivers, and connected it to my monitor using a DVI cable. The display quality is noticeably better now -- colors look more natural, and text is crisper.
