(no subject)

On Sunday, while out for a walk, I saw that the police had taped off a large area in front of several nightclubs just a couple of blocks from where I live. Reading the newspaper later, I learned that there had been a fight between two groups of young men, and two of them had been stabbed. That row of clubs is becoming notorious for violence. Those incidents typically happen around closing time, when I am safely tucked in my bed, but even so it is disturbing.

Later on that same walk, I was puffing and panting while climbing a trail in the Roxboro Natural Area, when some kind of bug flew into my mouth and hit my tonsils. Gack! I can still feel the impact.

The smoke has pretty much cleared up here, after some rain and shifts in the wind, and the forest fires in the Crowsnest Pass are finally coming under control.

I've had my screen at 800*600 for years, and yesterday I decided to change to 1024*768. I used it like that for a while, but nothing looked right, so I changed back to 800*600 -- but now that didn't look right. I've set it back to the higher resolution; I guess I'll get used to it in time.
