A drab day here, overcast and cool. I feel rather uninspired. L is going to make a pot of tea and some boiled eggs for breakfast. Then perhaps we will go for a walk.

In my "to be read" stack

Beyond the Golden Stair, by Hannes Bok.
Lud-in-the-Mist, by Hope Mirlees.
The Black Diamonds, by Clark Ashton Smith. Three fantasy novels. The first two were published as part of the Ballantine Adult Fantasy Series in the early 1970s. The Smith book is an Arabian Nights fantasy he wrote as a teenager, which was only recently discovered and published. I don't have high expectations for it, though I've enjoyed his other work.

Emphyrio, by Jack Vance. My favorite science fiction writer. I've read this one before, but it was recently reprinted so I bought a copy to read again.

The True Believer, by Eric Hoffer. I've wanted to read this one for years, but it has been hard to find. It got a lot of attention after 9/11. Subtitled "thoughts on the nature of mass movements".

A recent post by miss_hand reminded me of Christopher Ondaatje, a Canadian businessman who has written several books about his travels retracing the routes taken by Richard Francis Burton, the explorer, linguist and translator. I must get and read some of his work.
