Burl wood carving of a beaver by Tom Ward. I photographed it yesterday in the Devonian Gardens, and used the image to experiment with masking in Photo-Paint.

The beaver is the national animal of Canada. Why a large, buck-toothed rodent was chosen as the national symbol I don't know -- perhaps it has to do with the animal's industrious nature.
