Our apartment building has smoke detectors. Four apartments are wired together, so if smoke is detected in one apartment, the alarm goes off in all four. This can be annoying. For example, very early this morning someone down the hall burned their toast, and the alarm went off with a hellacious screech. I was lying in bed awake and didn't bat an eye, but L, who had been sleeping, leaped out of bed. That alarm could wake the dead.

According to this Life Expectancy Calculator, I am likely to live to the ripe old age of 87. Another 36 years... time to "fill the unforgiving minute / With sixty seconds' worth of distance run".
