Watched Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring last night on DVD. I had read the books as a teenager, and they made quite a strong impression on me at the time. I can't remember all the plot details, but the characters and settings I recall vividly. The movie had to meet the challenge of portraying the Tolkien's fantasy universe, which it did very well. Was it as good as the books? Probably not, but it was an excellent movie. I want to re-read the books, and I'm now looking forward to the next 2 movies.

A few examples of trees broken by the accumulation of snow, as mentioned in my last post. The snow is gone, but the damage remains.
