I just ordered a Maxtor D740X hard drive (7200RPM, 40GB). I remember buying my first hard drive about 15 years ago. In addition to being bigger, noisier and much slower than this one, it had 1/2000th the storage capacity and cost 5 times as much (more if you adjust for inflation). I love technological progress!

One side effect of technology is that my handwriting skills have deteriorated. I've worked with a keyboard in front of me for over 20 years, and as new technologies like email have come along, I've had less and less reason to write longhand. On the plus side of the ledger, my Palm Graffiti skills are coming along nicely...
